Position: Billing and Insurance Specialist

General Description:
Performs a wide variety of duties relative to patient admitting, billing, switchboard operation, patient information, patient accounts, and other administrative duties. Primary responsibility is to bill Medicare for services performed in hospital, hospital-based, and rural health clinic setting. Will pursue collection of all claims through the reimbursement cycle until payment is made. Will perform various other duties associated with the billing process. Responsible to maintain knowledge of Medicare billing and reimbursement policies, rules, and regulations, including Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs) and National Coverage Determinations (NCDs). Will work closely with health information staff to ensure that correct diagnosis/procedures are part of the claim and secure needed medical documentation required or requested by Medicare. Will also perform registration, admission, and scheduling functions in all areas of the department, utilizing knowledge and application of organizational policies, procedures and computer system. Assists with other business office functions and participates in a team environment.
Experience/Education Requirements:
Minimum of a high school diploma, or equivalent, required. Previous office experience in a healthcare setting highly preferred. Strong knowledge of healthcare billing and/or coding and Medicare regulations highly desired. Prefer at least two years of experience as a Medicare Billing Specialist, or equivalent. Knowledge of medical terminology. Exceptional customer service skills. Strong skills in various computer programs, word, excel, etc. Experience with Electronic Health Records. Highly developed problem-solving skills. Ability to adapt to flexible work schedule and frequent interruptions. Ability to prioritize to meet deadlines on daily work and special projects. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills.
