Audubon County Memorial Hospital and Clinics Achieves Accreditation with ACHC

AUDUBON, IOWA, Audubon County Memorial Hospital & Clinics proudly announces it has earned national accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) for meeting the high standards required for accreditation as a certified sleep lab.

To receive accreditation, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the ACHC, including sleep technologists certified and registered, quality assurance measures through patient satisfaction and meeting all facility requirements. Accreditation by ACHC reflects our organization’s dedication and commitment to meeting standards that reflect a higher level of performance and patient care.

Due to new regulations for Medicare recipients, all facilities performing sleep studies must be accredited. Therefore, if you are a Medicare patient, your sleep study will only be covered if completed in a hospital that has an accredited sleep lab, such as Audubon County Memorial Hospital & Clinics.

“A sleep study can diagnose or rule out sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, periodic limb movement disorder, restless legs syndrome, insomnia, sleepwalking, and other severe medical conditions.” stated Tina Gehling, Respiratory Therapy Director.

A sleep study is a noninvasive test which records a variety of body functions during sleep – eye and body movements, electrical activity of the brain, breathing patterns, oxygen levels, heart rate, and more. If you suffer from snoring, insomnia, headaches in the morning, or persistent drowsiness, you should talk with your primary healthcare provider to refer you to the ACMH sleep lab.

“We have always been proud of the exceptional quality care our sleep program provides and this accreditation demonstrates we meet and exceed national standards of care for sleep medicine. With our sleep program now being accredited, more patients can receive their care right here in Audubon County,” stated Suzanne Cooner, Chief Executive Officer. Our staff spent a significant amount of time gathering data and completing all the documents necessary to ensure we are following the requirements for accreditation. It demonstrates our commitment to achieving “excellence with quality and compassion to those we serve.’”
