Dr. David P. Nystrom DO, FAAFP is a board-certified family physician with nearly 20 years of experience providing comprehensive, patient-centered care to individuals and families throughout Iowa. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his Family Medicine Residency through the University of Iowa Family Medicine Residency Program in Sioux City. He is board certified in Family Medicine and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (FAAFP). In recognition of his outstanding commitment to patient care and the specialty of family medicine, Dr. Nystrom was named the Iowa Academy of Family Physicians Family Physician of the Year in 2019, one of the highest honors bestowed upon a family physician in Iowa.
A dedicated advocate for rural healthcare, Dr. Nystrom has practiced broad-spectrum family medicine throughout his career, caring for patients of all ages and backgrounds. His professional experience includes outpatient family medicine, emergency medicine, nursing home care, sports medicine, and addiction medicine. Earlier in his career, he also provided obstetrical care and delivered more than 300 babies.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Nystrom has served numerous leadership roles, including Medical Director for nursing home services, a pregnancy resource center, and county emergency medical services (EMS). He previously served as a District Director on the Board of the Iowa Academy of Family Physicians and has held leadership positions on hospital and medical staff committees, helping shape healthcare delivery and quality improvement initiatives within the communities he serves.
