Audubon Fourth Graders “Dissect” with a little help from the ACMH Outpatient Specialty Clinic
Katie Boehm, fourth grade teacher for Audubon Elementary School found a creative and memorable activity to instruct her students in reading.
Ms. Boehm contacted the Outpatient Specialty and Surgery Department at ACMH and asked if they would be able to donate surgical hats for her upcoming activity. ACMH, Sarah Asmus, LPN, Outpatient Specialty Clinic Supervisor, was excited and jumped at the chance to support our teacher and her students and donated surgical hats for each student.
Katie Boehm said of her lesson plan, “My fourth grade class worked on nonfiction text during this week. We talked about all of the features of nonfiction text while reading a book about the Titanic. When we completed that, we became surgeons! Nonfiction text has the “boring” label attached to it, so I wanted to make it interesting and fun! My students had to “dissect” and “cut open” many different nonfiction books to find all of the “organs” (features) of nonfiction text.”
ACMH is always happy to collaborate and connect with Audubon community partners.
