Handmade Wreaths Decorate ACMH During Awareness Months

ACMH was gifted with a few beautiful homemade wreaths made by Barb Hansen of Audubon. Wreath making is a hobby that Barb picked up one bright spring.

At the main reception desk at the hospital, you’ll find a lovely fall palette of colors that evoke the harvest season.

The base of vibrant red and white is balanced with seasonal decor the colors of falling leaves. Adorned with ribbons the colors of pumpkins and pine trees, this wreath proclaims the soul of the artist that leads to the focal point, the word “Grateful.”

In the Outpatient Clinic on the second floor and at the Exira Medical Clinic, patients, providers, and employees enjoy Barb’s next creation, stunning pink wreaths that support Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Each wreath takes a full day or longer to make. Sometimes the base of the wreaths wait until inspiration finds the perfect decorations that add the finishing touch.

Crafting these wreaths was Barb’s way to show appreciation to the hospital and clinic staff. Barb said, “Thanks for all the care you have given me over the year.”  While she shied away from compliments of her artistry, she is pleased that her creations give other happiness.

Full of inspired ideas, Barb wondered if the hospital would like different colored wreaths for some of the cancer awareness months. “There are so many people in our community that have cancer. I thought it would be nice to show them we care.”

So, as you walk through the ACMH facilities and see these beautiful wreaths made with great care and love, know that that hands that made them care for you too.
