Take Charge of Your Health in 2019

As we begin a new year, what’s one of the most important things you can do for your health in 2019? The answer? Good health starts with great primary care, so your first step to take charge of your health in 2019 is to find a primary care provider.

Your primary care provider should be your primary resource for prevention and wellness measures as well as a health educator for the entire family. They will be your main healthcare provider for your most common medical problems and should also be looking out for your overall health, recommending screenings, making referrals, encouraging healthy habits, and much more.

Our primary care providers – Dr. Charlie Burkett, Dr. Stephanie Vampola, Vivian Chance, and Val Riesberg – offer services at both the Audubon Family Health Clinic and Exira Medical Clinic. Our clinics offer complete care from newborns to senior adults by providing well child check-ups, age-appropriate preventative care, DOT physicals, OMTs (back and neck adjustments), sports and school physicals, immunizations, chronic care management, and treatment of occasional and ongoing illnesses.

What’s important is that you develop a trusting, ongoing relationship with a healthcare provider that can meet your general medical needs and who can steer you to specialists or other medical resources when needed. If a specialist is needed, Audubon County Memorial Hospital and Clinics has you covered! We offer a wide range of specialty services including orthopedic, mental health, audiology, plastic surgery, hand and microvascular, sports medicine, pain management, podiatry, dermatology, oncology, spine surgery, cardiology, urology, head and neck surgery, and urology.

Our full-time employed General Surgeon, Dr. Maire, can perform a variety of surgeries including laparoscopic gallbladder removal, hernia repair; such as belly button and groin, EGD or upper endoscopy and colonoscopy, breast abnormality consultation and biopsy, along with skin lump and bump removal. For a complete list of surgeries and specialty clinics available at Audubon County Memorial Hospital and Clinics please visit our website at acmhhosp.org.

In addition to finding a primary care provider, take charge of your health by scheduling a preventative health screening. Knowing your current blood pressure, cholesterol levels and other key blood tests can empower us to make informed decisions about our lifestyle. The ACMH Health Screening clinic is extremely accessible (Walk-ins Welcome) but also affordable and offered annually. The 2019 Health Screenings will be held on the following dates:

  • February 11th, 12th, and 14th from 6AM-9AM (ACMH Cafeteria)
  • February 13th from 6AM-9AM (Exira Medical Clinic)

Blood testing at ACMH Health Screenings range from basic cholesterol and blood sugar testing to a Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP). The CMP test helps to evaluate kidney and liver function, sugar and protein levels in the blood, and the body’s electrolyte and fluid balance. Additionally, a Complete Blood Count test that is used to evaluate overall health and detect a wide range of disorders, including anemia, infection and leukemia, will be offered. A complete list and description of screening options can be found by visiting acmhhosp.org. Discuss your results from the ACMH Health Screening and any other health related concerns with your primary healthcare provider. Your primary care provider is a critical member of your personal wellness team.
