The new department is called Behavioral Health Intervention Services (BHIS), which will include bachelor’s level mental health providers. These providers will go into client homes and community settings which will complement their therapy process.

Primary Goals of BHIS:

  • Improve Functioning: Enhancing a person’s ability to succeed at home, in school, and in the community.
  • Behavioral Management: Assisting families and individuals in gaining or retaining self-control.
  • Skill Acquisition Areas: Key areas addressed include social skills, communication, anger management, and coping techniques.
  • Family Intervention: Enhancing the family’s ability to effectively interact with and support the individual.

Potthoff also states, “We hope to work more intensely with children and families to reduce many pervasive issues families are facing today such as suicidal ideation among youth, self-harm, substance abuse, long term inpatient stays and abuse. Our goal is to have a positive impact in our community.”
