The fall session of “What’s Happening With…” started Tuesday with Tyler Williams, ARNP from Audubon County Memorial Hospital and Clinics discussing rural healthcare and the need for preventive care. Williams, his wife Ashley and two children Monroe and Presley reside in Carroll.
Williams stressed the importance of scheduling an Annual Wellness Visit. These visits focus on preventative care where you can discuss topics such as your medications, blood pressure, cholesterol, lipid profile, exercise, diet and more to try and stay ahead of illnesses if possible.
Through these discussions with patients, Williams inputs patient information into a technology program that can assess your risk of having a heart attack or stroke within 10 years. Williams states that any risk, even if it is minor, he takes very seriously and begins developing treatment plans with the patient.
Online appointment availability was also discussed for acute appointments through the MyChart program. If you have not signed up for MyChart and need assistance, call the ACMH Rural Health Clinics and the receptionist can assist you (712-563-4611).
A question was asked about the hospital’s connection with our local students in both the Audubon and Exira school districts.
Many examples were mentioned such as Dr. Vampola’s reading program to the Kindergarteners, Dr. Maire’s healthcare career speaker series where he discusses clinical and non-clinical opportunities in healthcare to the high school students, the Summer Internship Program was developed to hire 2 interns interested in any aspect of the healthcare industry which has now expanded to include summer and winter break opportunities, the Human Resource Department worked with Audubon High School to develop a semester long student internship program where students can obtain school credit, and most recently, ACMH Rehabilitation Director, Kyle Juhl, DPT, goes to the Audubon High School to provide injury screenings and assessments every week.
ACMH is looking forward to participating in the ACED Career Day on October 2nd at the Agri Hall and hosting healthy walks for students of all ages later this year.
ACMH is involved in over 50 events within the community each year and continues to explore options with community partners to increase outreach programs annually. Look for news of upcoming events later this fall and watch the paper for more details.
