The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a voluntary health organization that is committed to helping communities fight cancer. The ACS states, that in 2019 over “2.5 million participants worldwide joined Relay For Life to raise funds and awareness to continue our mission to help save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer. ACS estimates that 1 out of 3 people in the US will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.” According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States.

Audubon County student receives IHERF scholarship

ACMH is proud to share that Lauren Hansen of Exira, an employee of Audubon County Memorial Hospital and Clinics who is studying Nursing-ADN at Des Moines Area Community College, has been awarded a $3,500 scholarship from the Iowa Hospital Education and Research Foundation (IHERF), which is supported by the Iowa Hospital Association (IHA). Lauren is among 60 students from Iowa who have received assistance this year from the IHERF Health Care Careers Scholarship Program.

Audubon County – Audubon County Memorial Hospital & Clinics is excited to announce the implementation of a new Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system to Epic, the most widely-used and comprehensive health record in the country. “Epic is the gold standard in electronic medical records designed to transform how we collect, store, and manage clinical information; improve patient safety; and enhance communication between healthcare providers,” said ACMH CEO, Suzanne Cooner.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also states that boys are nearly 5 times more likely than girls to be diagnosed with ASD. Autism spectrum disorder is one of the fastest-growing developmental disorders in the United States. ASD is more common than childhood cancer, diabetes and AIDS combined. Many children go undiagnosed or get the wrong diagnosis and may go untreated.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now recommending a second booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine or Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine for individuals 50 years of age and older at least 4 months after receipt of a first booster dose of any authorized or approved COVID-19 vaccine.

On Thursday March 24^th, ACMH staff honored those employees who celebrated milestone anniversaries. The Annual Awards ceremony was held in the Gathering Place at the hospital.
